Phoenix May Rise for Scientology-Tinged Project

Joaquin.phoenix.showblitz Joaquin Phoenix has stayed under the radar since his "retirement," which turned out to be nothing more than fodder for the vanity prjoect “I’m Still Here." Now Variety's Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) exclusively reports that the mercurial actor is in early talks to join Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled religious drama with a Scientology bent. Anderson is directing from his own original script; Hoffman will play a charismatic leader, and Phoenix would play alcholic drifter who becomes his right-hand man who comes to doubt him.
