Oscar Isaac to Romance Maggie Gyllenhaal in Fox's 'Still I Rise'
Oscar Isaac is moving from "Sucker Punch" villain to sensitive teacher, as the Guatemalan actor has just booked the male lead in Walden Media's drama "Still I Rise," Variety's Jeff Sneider exclusively reports. 20th Century Fox is handling domestic distribution for the film, which stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis as two frustrated mothers who team up to transform an inner-city public school. Isaac will play a sexy, ukulele-playing teacher who helps inspire, challenge and romance Gyllenhaal's character throughout the film. Daniel Barnz ("Beastly") is directing from an original script by Brin Hill, which the helmer then rewrote. Isaac, who recently tested for the lead role in Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy," will soon be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive," which has been one of the more buzzed-about titles at Cannes.
