Appetite for 'Hunger Games' Enough for Four Films?
Lionsgate thinks it's got a "Twilight"-sized hit on its hands with "The Hunger Games" (duh) -- so much so that they're taking a page from Summit's playbook and making the bestselling trilogy into four films starring Jennifer Lawrence. This, according to studio bigwigs who got on a conference call this morning to talk about the earnings report they put out yesterday -- or perhaps more accurately, the earnings they're going to reap from Suzanne Collins' books. No word yet on how they'll do it, but here's guessing they'll split the final installment in two, a la "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" (or in the case of "The Hobbit," halve the prequel). Call us cynical, if Hollywood is going to transparently splice up books to service greed over tight storytelling, why not just go all out and throw some TV series in between? ... Right? ... What's that you say? Universal is doing that with "The Dark Tower"? Sigh.
