'Bridesmaids' star Chris O'Dowd, others join Apatow project

Odowd Chris O'Dowd has entertained a tidal wave of offers since playing Kristen Wiig’s law-enforcing love interest in Universal’s “Bridesmaids,” including one to appear in Judd Apatow's latest effort as director, Variety's Jeff Sneider exclusively reports. O'Dowd, "Tiny Furniture” director Lena Dunham and Charlyne Yi ("Knocked Up") are in negotiations to join the ensemble cast of the untitled comedy that spins off "Knocked Up." Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprise the husband-and-wife roles they played in “Knocked Up.” O’Dowd and Dunham will play employees of Rudd’s indie record company; Russell will play a hockey player; and Yi will reprise her “Knocked Up” character, the giggling stoner Jodi. Apatow, who produced the now-$100-million-hit "Bridesmaids," likes to work with his regulars -- so expect to see O'Dowd in future Apatow joints.
