'Chuck' says adios

"Chuck" said a fond farewell to Comic-Con audiences on Saturday, as over 6,000 people lined up in the early morning to bid adieu to the low-rated (but fan-favorite) skein.
As the show enters its fifth and final season, cast and crew of the spy comedy paid tribute to its fans.
Addressing last season's cliffhanger in which Morgan got the Intersect uploaded, a special SDCC clip included Joshua Gomez in a Rocky-esque training sequence featuring Jeffster playing "Eye of the Tiger."
"You don't always get to go out with your own ending," said series creator/scribe Chris Fedak. "'Alf' was captured by the bad guys and we don't know what happened because he got caught by the bad guys and the show was canceled. The challenge to close out the story will be amazing and fun."
"We get one more crack at this," said star Zachary Levi. "We get one more chance to hang out and have fun. We get to say goodbye to you, and that's a rare opportunity."
The cast recalled a few favorite moments with the crowd and remembered what they loved most about the show and its fans.
"We have so many (memories). Being able to be here at Comic-Con for a fifth season is great," said Levi. "But I was so grateful for that first year. I think the show had enough of a sci-fi component that it fit. Two thousand people showed up for a show they never heard of. Of course, they were all Adam Baldwin 'Firefly' fans. We got a standing ovation and I started crying. I'm such a sap. Everyone gets free high-fives all weekend long!"
Fedak also shared a few insights on the upcoming season, especially after last season's twist with second banana Morgan getting the Intersect.
"Unlike Chuck, who thinks things through, Morgan wants to take revenge," said Gomez. "I hope you guys enjoy it, and bring goofiness to the Intersect project."
"This season is about going back to the basics," remarked Fedak. "For our show, the way Chuck gets out of problems is by thinking it through. Chuck has to be far smarter now. It's his chance to be a real spy without the superpowers."
"We also have Mark Hamill lined up for the next villain," said Fedak. "It would be great to bring Linda (Hamilton) back. It wouldn't be a show without Mama Bartowski."
The cast also discussed how they would like to see the show end.
"Awesomely," said Levi.
"I don't want it to end," admitted Gomez.
"I want Lester, like Willem Dafoe in 'Platoon,' to go out with a glorious death. In slo-mo," said Vik Sahay.
As for final thoughts, Fedak and Levi took a moment to express their appreciation, both to fans and to Comic-Con.
"This is an amazing place for the 'Chuck' show," said Fedak. "That first screening was a magical moment. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. For the support, the Subway sandwiches, thank you. It is a fan show and we wouldn't be here without you guys."
"I echo everything Chris says," said Levi as he teared up. "You guys are epic. Each and everyone one of you. The time and money you spent on sandwiches, you took energy in your lives and you're passionate about what you do. And I want to thank San Diego Comic-Con for giving us that chance."
