Comic-Con: 'Ghost Rider,' Starring 2 Daredevil Directors?
Nic Cage is back as the hell-bent stunt biker for "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," a sequel to the 2007 Marvel pic with Idris Elba co-starring, but Sony preferred that Hall H not focus on flaming skulls or movie stars Friday night -- instead, the studio sold "Vengeance" as an exercise in extreme directing.
The panel opened with footage of co-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor dangling in one precarious sitation after another, holding a camera while rollerblading behind speeding motorcycles, swinging from a cable over a dam and being launched from wires in all different directions to capture close-up action.
In many cases, it appeared the director was in more danger than the stuntman.
"We promised the stunt guys that if they got hurt, that take would make it into the movie," Neveldine said. "And that happened."
That spirit rubbed off on the cast, who repeatedly said they had to stay on their toes while the co-directors whirled around them with cameras. It also showed up in the brief footage, which included plenty of shots that showed off the daredevil camera work.
