Comic-Con Rides Out on 'Sons of Anarchy'

Sons-of-anarchy-season-4-begins[1] Comic-Con closed on Sunday afternoon with FX's presentation of "Sons of Anarchy," part of Fox's SDCC Hall H domination including a screening of "It's Always Funny in Philadelphia."

Season four of 'Anarchy' picks up 14 months after the events of the season three finale, with the members of SAMCRO getting out of prison. Moderated by Marene Ryan, panel was atteded by series creator Kurt Sutter, and stars Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman.

Now with the club out of jail, what is next for SAMCRO?
Hunnam: Ask anyone who went to prison, most of the time spent there is spent thinking of what to do when you get out. We all get out with a head of steam. Over the course of season three with my baby being taken and getting Able home, I don't have time to absorb that. That 14 months was spent soul-searching for Jax with balancing life in the club and life with his baby. Difficult decisions will have to be made.

What were the ladies up to?
Sagal: Gemma was under house arrest for six months. At the beginning of season four, you see a happy Gemma. But it doesn't last that long.

What is with the new sheriff in town?
Sutter: Rockman Dunbar plays the new sheriff, and it's a new development for the club, who have always had a relationship with law enforcement. There are a lot of external law enforcement antagonists, but there are issues with the club as well. I've always said SAMCRO's major enemy can be SAMCRO.

Perlman: Whenever there is an external threat to the club, all internal differences are shelved, but not resolved. There is a lot of tension that exists. They are fermenting and will be too big to ignore.

Will Jax and Tara repair their relationship?
Sutter: I think Jax did a lot of soul-searching, and in season four, there is a deeper commitment to family. So the relationship is more important. And Tara gave birth to his child, so the relationship is solidified.

Hunnam: Jax doesn't know where the next day, month, or year will lead him, but his personal life now takes precedence.

Sutter: Commitment to the club is a strong commitment, and anything that flies in the face of that means decisions need to be made.

Hunnam: It's a dynamic anyone can relate to. I live with a girlfriend, she expects a certain amount from me. But because Kurt works me like a slave, it puts a strain on the relationship.

Any craziness planned?
Sutter: It's a romance novel at the end of the day. There are a few, if not more fucked up things this season.

What will be the tone?
Sutter: They are back on their home turf. They are big fish back in the small pond of Charming, but the pond is polluted.

What role will Otto play in season four?
Sutter: I find it's important to hurt Otto some way each season so I can personify the process of showrunning.
Otto was a guy that traveled both worlds. He was a device of exposition. He was a way to get information from the prison system.

Any new gangs coming up in the new season?
Sutter: There will be relationships with the Russians, which ended in season three. They will establish a new relationship with a Mexican-based crime organization. That will be Danny Trejo's character.

Will we see more comedy?
Hunnam: I prefer drama. I had a great relationship with Judd, but it wasn't what I wanted to do. My tastes are more dramatic. But because things have been so heavy lately, I did a little comedy called "Frankie Goes Boom" with Mr. Ron Perlman ... and we're lovers. But one of us isn't a man. So it isn't weird.

Any more battles between Jax and Clay? Will Jax take over soon?
Perlman: Not if I have anything to say about it. Which I don't.
Jax: My dad used to tell me when I was getting bigger and thought I was a badass, that when I'm big enough, I'll be too old.

How is prepping to play Gemma compared to Leela and Peg?
Sagal: Leela I rolled out of bed. It's voiceover. Gemma requires blond and stripper nails. Part of the fun of playing something in this world is all the leather and cleavage. Probably my husband's intention. So a bit of physical preperation.
