'Immortals' lives
"The Man of Steel" may not fly into theaters until 2013, but Relativity Media was able to be the first to bring Superman to Comic-Con for "Immortals."
"Before he was Superman, he was our Theseus," said producer Mark Canton while introducing Henry Cavill, above, star of greek god action epic "Immortals" to a rousing reaction from a crowded Hall H.
Cavill called "Man of Steel" one of the best scripts he's ever read and "was humbled by the experience" to play Superman.
"You have to try not to come off as too English about it and not too American, either," Cavill said of his role as Theseus on the panel during his first trip to the Con in San Diego.
Relativity had previously shown a teaser trailer for "Immortals" at San Francisco's WonderCon, but production company was able to unveil slick new sequences now that more of the CG-heavy stylized 3D scenes are complete.
Cast Freida Pinto, Kellan Lutz, Stephen Dorff and Luke Evans also too the stage.
Zeus is portrayed by Luke Evans plays a younger version of Zeus who is normally portrayed by an old man. "These are gods," afterall, he added. "What would you want to look like as a god? We're action gods."
Lutz plays Poseidon, who he described as "King of the wetness."
The film is "a little darker than what the trailers would have you believe," said director Tarsem Singh.
As for the 3D, "3D is a tool, and I don't mean that in a rude way," Singh said. "If you're ready for it," and have the time to work with the format, 3D can look effective.
"My style tends to lend itself to 3D because it's static and not shaky," Singh said.
"You've got a 3D image on a 2D screen," which will always create complications, Singh said. "This stuff is going to date very quickly. But it has an aesthetic form that's very compelling."
