Shawkat Lands A Pair of Indies
Jason Bateman and Michael Cera aren’t the only “Arrested Development” stars who have made successful leaps to the bigscreen, as Alia Shawkat continues to expand her presence in features, landing supporting roles in a pair of high-profile indies, Variety's Jeff Sneider reports exclusively. Shawkat has been cast in Fox Searchlight’s “He Loves Me” alongside Paul Dano and Annette Bening, as well as in “The Brass Teapot,” which stars Juno Temple and Michael Angarano. In “He Loves Me,” Shawkat will play a cute hipster who has a crush on Dano’s character and is obsessed with one of his literary creations. In the darkly comic morality tale “Brass Teapot,” Shawkat will play Louise, a friend of Temple’s character. Story follows a broke young couple who steal a brass teapot that produces cash whenever someone feels pain. Since her breakout role as Maeby Funke in the cult hit “Arrested Development,” Shawkat has appeared in Drew Barrymore’s “Whip It,” the Kristen Stewart-starrer “The Runaways” and most recently, in the comedy “Cedar Rapids.” She will soon be seen in “The Oranges” and “Damsels in Distress.”
