Legendary picks newcomer Chadwick Boseman to play Jackie Robinson in '42'

Legendary Pictures is swinging for the fences with relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman, who’s in final negotiations to play Jackie Robinson in the biopic 42, Variety's Justin Kroll reports. Brian Helgeland will direct from a script he penned. Pic follows story of Robinson, the first African-American to play in the major leagues. Legendary had no comment on the casting. Recent credits include THE EXPRESS, about the first African-American winner of the Heisman Trophy (though he didn't play the lead role of Ernie Davis).
