Genndy Tartakovsky is set to develop and direct the famous sailor man, Popeye. Jay Scherick and David Ronn are tasked to write the script, while Ari and Avi Arad are producing the film under Arad Productions together with Sony Pictures Animation. Popeye has had a number of spin-offs in the past since its appearance in the comic strip “Thimble Theater” in 1929. The most significant spin-off includes that of Robert Altman’s film that starred Robin Williams.
