Courtney Crangi is a NYC socialite and fashion designer. Along with her brother Philip Crangi, she runs the upscale jewelry line Crangi. Her ex-partner, Jenna Lyons is the former creative director and president of J.Crew, where she worked for over 25 years helping transform the brand into a preppy-chic style powerhouse.

A Fashion Power Couple No More

After six years together, fashion icon Jenna Lyons and her partner Courtney Crangi have decided to go their separate ways. The former President and Executive Creative Director of J.Crew had been romantically involved with Crangi, who is the sister and business partner of jeweler Philip Crangi, since 2011.

Their split comes during a transitional period for 49-year-old Lyons, who earlier this year ended her storied 26-year career with J.Crew. Lyons took the helm of the popular clothing brand in 2011. During her tenure, she honed J.Crew’s signature preppy-chic aesthetic and turned the company into a fashion powerhouse.

Finding Love After Heartbreak

Lyons met 44-year-old Crangi shortly after divorcing her husband of nine years, artist Vincent Mazeau. Lyons and Mazeau, who share custody of their son Beckett, cited irreconcilable differences for their divorce. Despite the gossip, those close to the couple insisted that Lyons’ new relationship with Crangi was not the catalyst for the breakup.

The stylish pair kept their romance out of the public eye until 2012 when Lyons thanked her “girlfriend Courtney” during an acceptance speech at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. It was the first time Lyons openly acknowledged that she was in a same-sex relationship.

In 2013, Lyons spoke candidly about coming out later in life during an interview with the New York Times.

“When I was young and people judged me for things I had no control over, that was really hard, so I’m incredibly open to people doing whatever works for them,” she said. “It’s just as surprising to me as it probably is to everyone else. It certainly is strange to wake up, at 44, and look at the person next to you and think: ‘Oh! This wasn’t what I expected.’ But I don’t think love works that way, and I am O.K. with that.”

What’s Next After Heartbreak

For Courtney Crangi, the end of their long-term relationship also comes during a transitional time. In addition to co-running her company, Crangi has three children from a previous marriage to raise as a single mom.

Neither Lyons nor Crangi have publicly commented on the split. But it seems the former couple, who were fixtures on the fashion scene for many years, remain friends. According to reports, Lyons recently helped Crangi and her brother find a new production factory for their jewelry line in Rhode Island.

While the circumstances surrounding their breakup remain unclear, close friends of Lyons and Crangi indicate it was an amicable split. After weathering public scrutiny at the start of their unlikely romance, the fiercely private couple apparently parted ways with the same quiet dignity that defined their six-year relationship.
